The secret of Café Asia’s long-running success can be attributed to two factors; the rich experience of its staff and management, and the high quality of its ingredients. Browsing through the menu is like taking a journey across Asia itself: from the fresh, exciting flavours of Thailand and Vietnam to the rich, complex spices of Malaysia, and from innovative Japanese dishes to the timeless classics of traditional Cantonese cookery.
Being based in the Westcountry, we’re lucky to be surrounded by many of the finest food producers in the country. We take advantage of this by sourcing the finest quality local ingredients, allowing us to support the local economy whilst ensuring the consistent superiority of our dishes. Wherever possible we support local producers: our free-range eggs come from Rich Chicks in nearby Blackawton, our fresh topside beef comes from Luscombe and Sons butchers in Totnes, and our other meats including belly ribs, chicken breasts and Cherry Valley Ducklings are all UK sourced and produced. We use local fruit and vegetables supplied by Frank H Mann Ltd of Torquay and Cornish Farm Produce of Saltash, and our fresh local fish, scallops and squid are provided by Rex Down Fishmongers of Plymouth.
We create our own sauces and marinades to ensure all our customers can enjoy the captivating aromas and flavours of the Far East. Where traditional ingredients are unavailable from local suppliers, we spare no expense to ensure our dishes are authentic, and import fresh and delicious Thai herbs and spices that allow our dishes to transport your tastebuds on an exotic Eastern adventure!
The owners and chefs at Café Asia are all passionate and knowledgeable about Pan-Asian cookery, and each dish is carefully created to be both authentic and delicious.
Founder Beverly Tsang has a wealth of experience in the industry, and saw a fantastic opportunity to open a restaurant offering the sort of high-quality, exciting Asian cuisine that had never previously been available in the South Hams. The restaurant has always been run according to the highest standards, but luckily it retains the welcoming atmosphere you can only find in a family business.
Beverly’s son-in-law David co-owns and manages Café Asia, and is always on hand to ensure that your dining experience exceeds your expectations; whether it be an intimate meal for two, a business function or a large group party!
Head Chef Siew Lung has spent his entire career preparing innovative Asian dishes to the highest possible standards. Originally from Malaysia, he has worked around the world in 5 star hotels and on Star Cruises luxury cruise liners in the Far East, and now offers you the chance to indulge in the exciting menu on offer at Café Asia.
